George's Music Center
For Torrington families and players.
George's Music Center has been Torrington's music store since 1998. George Donovan Jr. opened it downtown, at Wall Street and East Main Street. Today the store is on New Harwinton Road, Route 4, in the Eastside Commons plaza on the east side of town, a few minutes from downtown.
Torrington families use all four sides of the store. Kids rent their band and orchestra instruments here, take lessons in the private rooms downstairs, and bring the instrument back to the repair bench when a pad sticks or a valve slows down. Parents pick up the method book, reeds and valve oil on the same trip.
Players come in for the guitar wall, the amp row and the drum floor, and for setups and repairs done in the shop. Shopping for a first guitar or a new kit? Come play a few before you decide. That's the whole point of a store you can walk into.
Lessons run 30 minutes a week, one-on-one, with one of five teachers, in five private rooms on the lower level.
